When you buy goods from any business you have certain civil rights.

  • Animal Health and Welfare

There is a wide range of legislation in the UK designed to protect the health and welfare of both domesticated and wild animals.

  • Fair Trading

Fair trading covers a wide area of consumer protection law such as the Trade Descriptions Act, Property Misdescriptions Act, Consumer Credit Act and many more Acts of Parliament besides. The primary purpose of this type of legislation is to ensure 'truthfulness of trade' thus preventing consumers being misled during contractual negotiations for goods and services.

  • Food and Agriculture

This Council has the following standards in relation to Food and Animal Health and Agriculture:

  • Food Labelling and Composition

Food labels are there to give us information on what we are eating - this gives us, as the consumers, more of a choice. There are regulations that prevent manufacturers using misleading food labels.

  • Nurses Agencies Registration

With effect from 1st April 2003, the licensing and enforcement of nurses' agencies passed from the local authority to the new National Care Standards Commission (NCSC).

  • Petroleum Filling Stations

Petrol is a highly flammable liquid and gives off flammable vapour even at very low temperatures. When this vapour is mixed with air in proportions between 1% and 8% a risk of fire or explosion exists. Petrol vapour is heavier than air and does not disperse easily in still conditions. It tends to sink to the lowest possible level of its surroundings and may accumulate in tanks, cavities, drains, pits or other depressions.
