Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is providing a fun-filled week in Hatfield during the October half-term with events ranging from a pumpkin hunt and face-painting, to a Carve a Pumpkin competition and helpful safety advice.

Half-term kicks off on Saturday 25 October with a pumpkin hunt around the town centre - various shops will be hiding pumpkins in their windows and if you find them all there are some great prizes to win. Pick up and post your entry forms in Boots.  All entries must be in by Friday 31 October.

On Wednesday 29 October there is an Environment fun day in White Lion Square, with informative and interactive stalls and games for children to take part in. There will be an entertainer, balloon modeller and face painter as well, and all for free. The Police, Fire Brigade and other members of the Community Safety Partnership will be taking part and offering safety advice.

The day starts at 10am and draws to a close around 3.30pm. The first 15 children to attend the event can collect a free pumpkin to enter into the Carve a Pumpkin competition on Saturday.

Bringing the week to a close will be free Arts and Craft sessions for children, also in the town centre, between 11am and 3pm on Friday 31 October. Children can make a mask or hat for Halloween or decorate cookies in spooky designs. There will also be a children’s entertainer and balloon modeller. Don’t forget to hand in your completed pumpkin hunt forms in at Boots too!

Finally, on Saturday 1 November the winner of the Carve a Pumpkin competition will be announced at the Farmers Market. Please be there for 10.30am and the winner will be drawn at 11am.

Councillor Mandy Perkins, Executive Member for Planning and Environmental Health, said: “This promises to be a busy and enjoyable week in Hatfield, we are delighted to be able to provide something free of charge for children to enjoy over half-term, especially with Halloween approaching.”
