Around 5,000 homes in the borough are set to be consulted about what life is like in their area and what can be done to improve it.

As part of a joint initiative, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council will be sending out the surveys towards the end of September.

The survey will measure satisfaction with services provided by both councils, the police and NHS – telling them how well they are meeting the needs and expectations of local people, and what they might need to do differently in the future. It will also gauge public opinion on issues such as community cohesion, respect, anti-social behaviour and crime.

The consultation exercise is not just unique to the borough. In total, almost one in ten households across Hertfordshire will be asked to respond to the survey as part of a unique collaboration between the county council, all district/borough councils and other service providers.

Councillor Robert Gordon, Leader of Hertfordshire County Council, said “This is a vital opportunity for residents to tell us exactly how they feel. Listening to local people helps us make sure we are tackling the issues that matter to them, and to improve the services we provide.”

“By conducting this survey together with all the district and borough councils in Hertfordshire, we will be able to reach a large number of people and save money. This joint effort has been a great success for us and for Hertfordshire taxpayers.

Cllr Mark Gilding, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s Executive Member for Corporate Strategy and Communications, said: “Residents should use this chance to let us know what we are doing well for them as well as telling us what can be improved. There is a lot of good work going on in the borough and we welcome the views of residents.”

Participants will have the opportunity to enter a free prize draw, with the chance of winning up to £100. Across the county, ten respondents will be selected at random to win the top prize – and another fifty will receive £25 each.
