Information on the services you pay for.

The borough council and each of the town and parish councils has produced information leaflets to explain some of the services your council tax has helped to provide as well as how we have performed.

These leaflets are available from the individual councils, or can be downloaded below. Or you can contact your local Councillor.

Council Tax Increase

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is pleased to tell you that the council will increase its council tax by less than the current rate of inflation. To find out more view the council's explanation leaflet.

Hertfordshire County Council have prepared a factsheet explaining their revenue increase.  If you would like to contact Hertfordshire County Council regarding their increase please call their Customer Service Centre (budget/ctax enquiries only) on 0800 838667.  Open 8am to 8pm weekdays and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.

Special Expenses

Your council tax bill may have an item called Special Expenses.  This covers the separated costs for specific services carried out by the borough council, which are also carried out by parish and town councils.

These specific services include the maintenance of playing fields and open spaces, allotments, community halls and children's play areas.  Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council reduces its general council tax, calculates what it spends on these specific services and charges the specific expenditure directly to the council tax payer where the service has been provided.
